This is Buster. He isn't very happy with the neighbors these days. It would seem Busters swimming pool, (our pond) has gone down about 5 feet and is turning green for a reason. I found out that the neighbors have done away with a very important irrigation ditch. Unfortunately besides the natural springs under the pond, the ditch was also supplying the pond with its water.
I knew that this land had belonged to a farmer way back and they had put irrigation ditches in so that the properties wouldn't flood. Well my neighbor, we will call him....Richard, or Dick for short, decided to fill in the ditch and simultaneously cut of the water to my pond.
Now the dilemma. I don't care for this man at all. Not in the teentsy weentsy least. I can't see me speaking to him about it, well because I have an idea he could care less. So I have a few choices, dig a well for the pond...or take on the arduous task of finding more water. Digging a well specifically for the pond seems kind of redundant to me. I mean basically its moving water from one hole to another...costing big bucks. The other idea will be quite time consuming and...not sure if it is possible. So as you can see. Buster has beef and for good reason. The lesson for today.....even when neighbors are 10 acres apart....... still build a fence.

oh that is so sad for buster, why don't more people think just a little bit about the world around them, ugh. I hope you find a way to supply water to the pond. Ask around, there has to be a way. Good Luck
Oh poor Buster. I feel so bad for him and any of the other little critters that like your pond. Dick sounds just like our own neighbor who we so fondly also call "Dick". We're no longer speaking to him...for going on 4 years now, which makes being outside very uncomfortable at times being that we don't have 10 acres between us. Dick went on a squirrel catching rampage for an entire year. When I finally got the nerve up to go over to him and very sweetly ask him to PLEASE stop catching the squirrels or at least the females, because it was spring and the babies in the nests would die without their mothers...he looked at me and told me he wasn't killing them, just trapping them and setting them free somewhere else. I repeated that if he caught the mother's the babies would die, and again he told me he wasn't killing them. I walked away and haven't said a word to him since. A week after I spoke to Dick, my husband saw him trapping squirrels, and he gave Dick a few choice words, and he wasn't as polite as I had been! (I really can't repeat what my husband said...but, GO FRANK!!giggle, giggle!) YES, sometimes we need really big fences...or rather huge brick walls and moats too! When it comes to being unkind to animals, I have no tolerence... poor turtle!
Oh poor Buster I agree. The poor turtle.I will tell you something I found out the older I get I have zero tollerance for some people.Unfortuately i live close to people, which i dont mind, but i do try to keep things to myself when it comes to neighbors.Im actually glad Im that way since my husband died 7 years ago young. So I just say my hellos and thats it....people dont care about others, thats sad to me.Good Luck with Buster!
Thanx for the support ladies :) Sadly some people have no heart. The fish are still in the pond, but I have not seen the big ones, Itchy and scratchy :( I have a professional coming today to help us figure out a plan for making the pond self sufficient. Paulette I dont believe in killing squirrels. Some feed them, we brought them closer to us by taking away places for them to live. There should be a better way. You ladies are lovely, you truly are. xoxox
Well, that is a problem. The guy won't reopen it even for Buster? Can you move Buster to a different place? It would be sad, but would it save his life?
hi chatty,
No he won't open it back up, but we have someone coming with a backhoe :)
Poor Big cHUNKY BUSTER!!! LOL!
What is a turtle to do???
We are currently re fencing due to a neighbour...Hmmmm? Let me just call them "dicks" for short too!*wink*
As our chooks wander in there!!!!
No more free eggs for them,I say!
Hope buster gets a new fresh swimming hole solution too.
He is gorgeous!
lol isnt he? he is huge. I am in the process of working something oout as far as digging a little deeper to activate more springs :)
TY all for the sweet thoughts. Buster will always have a home no matter what I have to do. xoxoxox
I had a few Snapper Turtles (illegal to have here in New York City)that I "helped" birth a few years back. When they hatched I took two home with me. I actually arrived at the location that the mommy placed them (about 30 of them), on the exact day that they dug back through the earth to "life". Called one Turtle and the other Turtle-Turtle and another Turtle-D... Turtle-D died at the hands of it's sibling. I tried hard to save it... "mouth-to-mouth", with a straw, and chest pumping... tried for 30 minutes at 2:00am... but he expired. I placed him in a see-thru jewlery case with cotton "flooring"... sealed it with silicone and buried him in my yard. The other two got so big and dangerous that I had to set them free.. took them back to their birth place... and immediately walked the 30 yards to the lake that their mom came from... it was so cool... My kids were sad to see them go but amazed that they knew exactly where to go find their mom... OH... I found out from the Parks Dept. people that mom was over 100 years old... KOOL !!!!
Hi steve!
We just dont realize how cool all these creatures are. I love getting close to them even thoough I know buster can break a pretty good sized stick with his mouth. Yes from experience lol. Nice to see you always xoxoxox
